We had a wonderful visit on Sunday, May 18, 2008, by Leonard and Patty Jansson. Leonard grew up at Grace EV Free Church when it was known as Temple Baptist Church. He shared some great stories about growing up here and going to Sunday School at the chicken coop! Leonard shared the history of YUGO with us and all the work they do with mission trips to acquaint young people with evangelizing Mexico and other areas. It was a wonderful service concluding with a great pot luck with old friends.

We've started something new at Grace that has really been a hit. We call it Family Fun Night. It's a time to bring the familiy to church, kick back and enjoy some fun. Each first Friday of the month, from 7:00 p.m. to about 9:00 p.m. families and their children meet at church and have some fun together enjoying fellowship. In some of our recent events we have had Christian movies, Clean Comedians, Wii Olympics and sports nights. This coming May 2 we are having a Craft Night. There will be a few tables set up for you to enjoy making something. We hope you'll come and have some fun with us. We'll be looking for you!

I know that a lot of us struggle with choosing appropriate movies for our children. It seems Hollywood is finding out that we really are choosy.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A new study by The Nielsen Co. found that the PG-rated movies with the least profanity made the most money at the U.S. box office.

Sexuality or violence in those films had less to do with success than the language, the Nielsen PreView group said in a study being released Thursday.

"The reality is that profanity, within PG, is the big demarcation between box office winner and box office loser," research and marketing director Dan O'Toole said at ShoWest, a conference where studios unveil upcoming movie lineups.

"Parents are choosing PG films for their kids that have very, very low levels of profanity. We're talking one-third the level of the average PG film," he said.

The research firm cross-referenced box office data on 400 films in wide-release from the fall of 2005 to the fall of 2007 with their ratings for sex, violence and profanity given by Critics Inc.'s Kids-In-Mind.com Web site.

Controlling for marketing and production budgets of films, as well as depictions of violence and sex, movies that scored an average 0.8 on a 10-point profanity scale collected an average of $69 million. Those that averaged 2.8 for profanity averaged $38 million.

All PG movies averaged 2.3 on the profanity scale.

The Nielsen unit, which launched a fee-based research Web site for studios on Tuesday, also listed other early predictors of success.

The company found that movies that received approval from more than 70 percent of critics, regardless of their stature, earned far more at the box office.

Grace EV Free began a new ministry on Sunday, Jan 20. It's called the GapStander Ministry and it involves our Youth from FireStorm with our Adults at Grace. The name of the ministry comes from Ez. 22:30. God asks the questions "Who will stand in the gap?" when no one come forward to intercede on behalf of the people in sin.

At Grace we want to make sure there is someone who will be there for our  teens as they go through one of the most difficult parts of their lives. Therefore we have paired up our teens with an adult. The adults agree to do the following:

1. Pray for the teen each morning

2. Contact the teen once a week and see how they are doing.

3. Once a month meet with the teen and take them out for a donut or ice cream, something simple, and just chat with them and again, see if there is anything they'd like to talk about or questions they would like answered.

4. At the end of the year we will have a GapStander's banquet to honor all those who participated.

Please keep this new ministry in prayer as it has just been birthed. We expect to see great things come from it.
